I’m Geeking: My New Computer
Well sit right back and you’ll hear a tale. A tale of a fateful trip, that started when my s/o spilled pop on the laptop and killed it…And thus began the odyssey. We have a very old, very slow laptop that runs Windows 98, and some of the keys don’t work because one of the cats barfed on the keyboard, but it was certainly better than nothing. Then a friend of the family turned out to have a similar computer that was in better shape. So for the last few weeks we’ve been running on that. Then this week the refund check came in and a computer shopping we went.Being of modest means we opted to shop Wal-Mart (I know that it’s not exactly a bastion of enlightened capitalism but they do have fairly decent stuff at prices we can afford). We decided to get the gateway made E-Machine, which comes with a tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. The tower is 3.33GHz, with 512MB ram, and a 120 GB hard drive. It’s got a r/w DVD/CD drive. It comes with Windows Vista pre-installed. The monitor is 15.4 inch diagonal LCD low depth monitor.
So far I’m really enjoying it. While there is a bit of a learning curve with Vista it’s not as bad as some are making it out to be. What’s really fun are the “gadgets” that the program comes with. Basically they’re kind of like little applications, ranging from the useful, (Weather updates) to the not so useful, (Tic-Tac-Toe).
Ultimately I’m happy with the purchase and am glad to be on a machine that isn’t heading for obsolete ville.
Peace
And
Long
Life
