I’m Geeking: I Never Thought I’d Fall In Love Again
That’s right I’m in love. Well okay, not really. But to a hard core Comic Book Geek it feels that way. Back when I lived in Seattle, there were a couple of different comic book shops that I’d frequent. I never bothered getting on as a file customer with any of them because I never had a problem getting the stuff I wanted and I liked doing my part spreading the support around. When I moved out east to be with my s/o I quickly discovered that there were no comic shops in the immediate area. So I contented myself with the newsstand and from time to time I’d order comics from Mid-Town Comics. Mid-Town is a great store and they have one of the easiest to order from websites I’ve ever seen. But there is just something about the experience of going into a physical store, picking up your weekly supply of comics, checking the shelves for good stuff you might have missed, that ordering online just doesn’t quite match. When the s/o and I switched job locations to a nearby college town I was delighted to discover that there were not one but two comic book shops. However by that point I was only picking titles up occasionally, so I didn’t bother to get on file with either of them. Finally came the day that I figured it was time to get serious about collecting again. I talked to an employee at the one shop, and well I wasn’t entirely thrilled with what I heard. Now don’t get me wrong the person was perfectly polite, but they kept wanting to push the online version of their service, which really wasn’t what I was interested in. This particular shop has since gone to an online only business so I suspect that they were already preparing to move in that direction. So I went and tried out the other shop. I was immediately in love. Bigger, brighter, a better stock of graphic novels and back issues. Plus much better hours. Gary’s Comics and More. Still it took me a while do make the jump to get back on file. Finally last week I turned in my info and boom. The great thing about Gary’s is that each Friday he sends all his file customers an email letting you know what’s coming next week so it’s easy to have him add stuff to your pull that sounds interesting. Gary is often in the store and is very knowledgeable and enjoyable to talk with. His staff is as well. Over all it’s one of the nicest shops I’ve been in. It’s nice to know I’ll be able to get what I need to feed my Geek Addiction without having to run all over the place looking. It’s nice to be in love.
Peace
And
Long
Life
